Alex Bernard
Drama, suspense, hysteria, and excitement are to be expected in the spring performance of the Drury Drama Team. On Thursday, May 1, and Friday, May 2, at 7pm in the Drury High School Auditorium, the team will proudly present Cry Innocent: The People vs. Bridget Bishop, by Mark Wacome Stevick. Directed by Kate Caton, the show features actors dedicated to their roles.
Cry Innocent takes place in Salem, Massachusetts, in the late 1600s. Set in a courtroom, the audience watches a pre-trial examination of Bridget Bishop, an outgoing lady who is accused of practicing witchcraft as part of the vast witch hysteria at the time. As testimonies and discussions occur onstage, the story unfolds for the audience, and they are also able to get involved. The audience has the opportunity to ask questions to an of the actors who are present in the scene. In the end, the audience indeed chooses the fate of Bridget Bishop; she is either released or taken for further trial. The performance is very intriguing and interesting, and is sure to have the audience on the edge of their seat, waiting to see Bridget’s fate.
Tickets for the show are $8 for adults, and $5 for students and seniors. Come see the story unravel on May 1 and 2.
